This is an un-timed, open book quiz. Unlike last week, you only have 1 attempt to take this quiz, but there is no time limit so you can save your responses in draft form and return later to complete the quiz. Answers can be found in Audience Analysis: Just who are these guys? by David McMurrey.

Showing up on time for the meeting time you selected is worth 10 points in the course. We'll discuss how you feel the course is progressing for you so far and we'll talk a little about what you can expect in the coming weeks.
-
Please use this feedback activity to let me know how class is progressing for you so far. This is an anonymous activity so please don't hold back. It's important to take this opportunity to address any issues you've had so I can make the course better as we continue this semester. There is no grade for this assignment.

Use this activity to resubmit improved Application Assignments for Weeks 1-4. In order to be able to recover credit on these assignments, you must have submitted the original assignment on time.
There is no limit on how many Application Assignments you can resubmit. Please rework all 4 assignments if you'd like. You must, however, submit a memo with your re-submissions. Use a standard memo heading. Include "Pause Week #1 Re-submissions" as your subject line. Add a new heading for each Application Assignment that you're resubmitting. Include a paragraph detailing what you improved in each assignment.
Be sure to go back through the feedback I offered in the grading rubric and in the assignment attachments I sent back to you. To do this you'll need to click on the assignment in Moodle and scroll down until you see the completed rubric and attachment. This feedback will help you identify what to focus on as you revise.
You can earn back up to 1/2 of the points initially deducted from each assignment. This may not sound like a lot, but the Application Assignments are worth 60% of your overall grade in ENG220. Even a few points can result in an increase of 2% - 5% in the course.
The cut off for resubmitting improved work is Sunday, September 29th at 11:59 p.m.

Critical thinking is one of the general education outcomes assessed in ENG220. This semester, our class is participating in a pilot study that uses a standardized test known as The Test of Everyday Reasoning with Numeracy (TER-N).
There are several courses using this test. Most of you have not taken the test, but it's possible that one or two of you have. If you have taken the test for another class, please email me directly to let me know.
If you have NOT taken the test for any course, please do the following:
- Check your email for your username and password. I sent these out on Tuesday, November 5th.
- Download this document -- it contains instructions on how to access the test.
This is a 10 point assignment and you will receive full credit for participating in this assessment. Please let me know if you run into any issues at all. Thanks!

Some of these are good, but some need some work. Hopefully I'll get some better examples as I teach more sections of the course, but this will give you an idea of what past students have submitted. Please remember that each of your sources should be referenced in your corresponding component and it should also contain a works cited list.

The Submission phase is open from Monday, December 2nd until Sunday, December 8th. Submit your technical report and corresponding component along with a brief memo to your classmates. The memo should be addressed to ENG220 Students. The subject line should be ENG220 Final Project. Inside the memo, explain the intended audience for the report and components. The memo should also explain your role in relationship to the audience.
The Assessment phase is open from Monday, December 9th until Wednesday, December 11th. I'll assign each student two or three projects to review during this phase. Please complete your assessments by the end of the day on Wednesday, December 11th.
Even though points are being awarded by your classmates, you will receive full credit for this assignment as long as you participate fully. Two scores will appear in the gradebook -- one for the submission phase and one for the assessment phase. The entire purpose of this activity is to give each other feedback to improve projects. Be critical, be honest and help each other.

Moodle will only allow you to upload a total of 100MB. It's possible that your component is larger than 100MB. If so, upload your Corresponding Component in this Google folder -- create a folder with your name on it within this folder.
-
Make a submissionSubmit the following to this activity:
- Your revised audience memo. This should be addressed to ENG220 students. The memo should explain the audience, purpose, focus, and theoretical context for your report.
- Your revised technical report. This should be one file. Do not submit your works cited page and cover page as separate files. It should be one document.
- Your revised and completed corresponding component. Review the project overview document for acceptable file types. If you created a website or if your components are available online, include a link in a separate document or in your audience memo.

NMC faculty members who teach ENG220 often use student writing & student work both in the classroom and in professional/departmental meetings. Writing samples are used in classrooms to help other students envision assignment possibilities and in meetings to help faculty to understand learning needs and trends. In both uses, there is no impact on the student writer.
We are hoping that you will allow us permission to use writing produced in this course for such purposes. If you agree, please complete the survey questions. A "Yes" response will receive 5 points extra credit in the Participation category in Moodle.
If you've given your consent, your name will be removed from all samples used. Samples will be presented anonymously.
Thank you for considering!
