Application Assignment #12: Progress Report 2: Illustrations & Corresponding Component -- DUE 12/1
Introduction
For this Progress Report you will update your progress on research, include an update on your illustrations, your corresponding component and further explain audience and context. Your progress report should be in memo format. Use the tentative title of your report as your subject line. Include the following sections:
Summary
Explain your current topic, purpose, audience, and the context for your report and presentation. BE SPECIFIC! Who are you presenting to and what is the occasion for your presentation? List the issues you are now planning to cover in your final report; explain how much work you have completed.
Include an explanation of the expertise of your audience. How much background information will they need? In other words, what do they already know? Even for an expert audience, a brief review of background information is appropriate. It sets them up for the new information. However, you must be brief! Don’t bore or insult your audience by droning on about things that you all know well.
NOTE: You’ve already submitted a proposal and an initial progress report (in addition to a forum and a journal assignment) with this information. You can copy/paste/adapt what you’ve already written in the first progress report and this week’s journal assignment to give me the most up-to-date progress report possible.
Changes to the Initial Proposal
Include a section in your memo that explains how and why you have modified your approach. Did you add research questions? Did you update your audience to be more specific? Did you create an occasion for the presentation?
Research Update
Include the complete Works Cited for your report. Include a works cited entry for any new sources that you’ve found. Please remember that if a resource is listed on the Works Cited page, it also deserves parenthetical citation within the body of the report. You should have at least 3 resources at this point. If any source is older than 5 years old, please offer a rationale for why the resource is still valid. Please limit your report to 5 resources. Anything more than 5 is too much for a report of this nature.
Updated Outline
This should be very detailed at this point. Your outline should contain each point you make in your report. Putting the work in now to develop a solid outline will really help you in the long run. Indicate where your illustrations will go. Indicate where each resource will be included. Also, remember that this is a formal report so you will need a title page and works cited page.
Illustrations
Explain your tentative plans for the original illustrations that are required for the report. Upload your draft illustrations with your progress report or embed them in the memo itself. Please remember that you must label each illustration you include in the technical report and reference each label. Your two illustrations need to be originals. If you find data in your research you might consider creating a nice pie chart, bar graph or table. Please see the MLA citation guide in this week’s resources for help citing sources if you build an illustration based on someone else’s data. You are able to use additional illustrations/images from outside resources, but you must cite each image appropriately.
Corresponding Component
Explain the corresponding component you’ve selected to create in conjunction with your technical report. If you have a draft version of the component, upload them or paste it into the progress report.
