Week 1 Idea and Feedback Forum -- Initial Post DUE 8/29; Responses DUE 9/1
In the course readings this week you read a little about legal and liability issues that technical writers face. One often overlooked issue relating to liability is personal liability in email, texts and social media posts. Our course textbooks don't really discuss this issue so, in this forum, I want you to think about your personal experiences involving texting, emails and social media posts about work.
- Do you know someone who got in trouble at work for an inappropriate text, email or social media post?
- If you cannot think of anything in your personal experience, can you think of an example from popular culture?
You need to be “acutely aware” of liability, even in this class! Explain how the situation was resolved. Tell the story while protecting the identity of the person and employer (unless it's a popular culture example).
Your writing in these forums doesn't have to be perfect. You should proofread and make sure sentences are clean but this is very much an informal activity.
STEP 1: Click on the "Add a Discussion Topic" button below. This is where you'll post your paragraph about workplace writing. Give your post a title, such as "Email Trouble." Be sure to refer directly to the section of the textbook that your example relates to. (6 points).
Optional: Use the "Record audio/Record video" buttons in the editor () in the editor.
STEPS 2 & 3: Reply to two other students. Comment on whether you've had a similar experience or heard of a similar experience. How was it resolved? (4 points).
