Considerations for module 4

  • Progress is not fast - it's challenging (and it feels legitimate) when a learner tries hard to engage with the material, to think about concepts rather than just regurgitate. I spent about 2 hours on the module, excluding completion of the last page.
  • Module 4 talks of effective learning in general, but then it zeros in specifically on Cooperative Learning. Does it do more? Follows up with disclaimer that it's one of many tools for effective learning. It then introduces collaborative structures such as:
    • Think-Pair-Share
    • Place Mat (new to me)
    • One Strays, Others Stay
    • Jigsaw
    • Four Corners
  • Learning outcomes are linked somewhat as justification of collaborative learning.
  • Final workbook page is good one for forward planning.
  • I think a good NMC supplement would be to add other active learning strategies, perhaps a video explaining NMC's use of active learning classrooms and one talking about flipped classrooms.
