Syllabus Quiz: (your course orientation!)
You must take the Syllabus Quiz to get started with the course. To do this, go to our Syllabus at the top of our course Moodle page. It is right next to another important document-- the Schedule. Read the syllabus carefully, and then take the quiz in this week's folder. Don't forget that you can take it more than once. Your goal is to get a perfect score so you can participate in next week's discussion forum.
Course Schedule:
Please look the Schedule so that you can keep it handy and check off the requirements each week. This is a clear outline of the due dates and readings for the semester. Print out a copy if you would like or check it online on a weekly basis You will be responsible for checking the schedule and being aware of what is due each week and coming up! I will also have the schedule posted at the top of the Notes.
Meet-the-Class Profile
To be completed by week 2. Read the instructions when you click on the assignment link and look at my example post as a sample.
Group Forum for Monster
FORUM TIP: Go in at the beginning of the week and read the questions before you start your weekly reading!
This week, we will be discussing Monster.
When you are ready to post, click on the Discussion Forum and read the beginning questions and make your first post by Saturday this first week and your second response post by Saturday of Week 2.
For your second post, read other students comments and then respond. Think about how you could extend or expand the conversation by going in a slightly different direction or exploring an area that no one else has covered sufficiently. You are welcome to disagree with others as long as you do so in a respectful manner and as long as you support your response, your differing opinion. When you reply to someone, include his/her name in your response. (Joe, I also found Steve's situation . . .)
A good literature discussion is, in many ways, similar to writing about literature. When appropriate, you should give textual support for your comments by using either quotes or other references to the story. If you use a quote or if you paraphrase something from the text, include a page number in the same way that you would when writing an MLA style paper. ("Miss O'Brien looked at me- I didn't see her looking at me but I knew she was. Who was Steve Harmon? I wanted to open my skirt and tell her to look into my heart to see who I really was, who the real Steve Harmon was" (92).
Read "Good Forum Discussion Tactics” in this block and go to the second Moodle block and read the Forum Questions & Overview so that you will understand more about forum points and specific forum criteria.
