EXTRA CREDIT FORUM: Rhetorical Situation -- FIRST POST DUE FEB. 13 // REPONSE DUE FEB. 16
This is an extra credit assignment that involves applying our definition of rhetorical situation and testing your understanding of Project 2.
STEP 1: Read two documents linked here: Project 2 Overview and The Rhetorical Situation. Annotate as you read, asking and answering questions as you go.
STEP 2: Create a post that asks a question about project or the concept of rhetorical situation. You can ask a question that you believe you can answer accurately or a question that you're really not sure about. Don't answer the question. 5 pts.
STEP 3A: In the same post, give an example of a recent situation when you thought about the rhetorical situation of message and altered it according. What was the exigence? What was your purpose? Who was your audience and what was your relationship to your audience? What type of message did you deliver -- a text, a phone call, a face-to-face conversation, etc.? How did you adapt your message to fit this situation? Use the terminology -- writer, audience, purpose, subject, exigence, genre (how you delivered the message), and context. If you have an apt personal example, skip the next step. 5 pts.
STEP 3B: If you don't have a good personal example, develop a message based on this situation: You are stuck in a snowbank and going to be late for work. You need to contact your boss, who likes you in general, but isn't going to be happy because she is counting on you to help her this morning. Describe the choices you would make using the terminology -- writer, audience, purpose, subject, exigence, genre (how you delivered the message), and context. 5 pts.
