I've only taught a few courses but in those I've used icebreakers in the first class that set the stage for what we'll be exploring in the course; allow students to introduce themselves; and encourage students to think creatively about their experience.
I'll be teaching a livestream course for the first time in the fall and I'm worried about how well activities I've used in face-to-face settings will translate to a virtual environment. I think student engagement will be a bigger challenge than in face-to-face.
I haven't taught online or livestream before. I've used Moodle for my face-to-face courses and typically have used part of the first class to go over how I've organized the course in Moodle and where they can find course information.
