This course will prepare students to locate, create, evaluate, share, and use information appropriately, particularly as it applies to nursing courses and clinical assignments. Students will work to improve their writing, focusing on a scientific style of writing. They will develop proficiency in APA, setting them up for success in future coursework. Students will learn to locate and evaluate information from databases and the open web, making informed choices about what sources to use for specific use cases. They will practice professional and appropriate workplace communication. Informatics as a concept and its most basic applications as a sub-discipline within nursing will be explored through discussion boards and journaling activities; topics will include patient privacy, issues of equity in the workplace, and the evolving role of AI in healthcare.
This course is offered in an online format with a face-to-face component in the hospital during which time students will be trained on and demonstrate proficiency in the use of PowerChart EMR.
